Our focus
How can we slow down global warming? Why do people with less education or income live shorter lives? How can we work more effectively together on innovative solutions? These are examples of questions that HAN students, lecturers and professionals attempt to answer.
Together with companies from the region, HAN searches for and investigates sustainable solutions; solutions that are smart, green and social.
We organize this collaboration from within our degree programs, research groups, centers of expertise and 3 key areas. These are:
These 3 key areas ensure that various degree programs and researchers work together on practice-based research and innovations in the work field.

Smart Together
Digital applications are being developed ever quicker and technology plays an increasingly important role in our lives. These digital innovations are better when people from different backgrounds work together. The Smart Region theme helps with this by sharing knowledge and creating meeting places. This way we have impact on the digital work field and in our education.
GREEN TOGETHER
To keep our world livable, we have to reduce CO2 emissions. That can be done on a large scale, but also on a small scale, in our own region. We work together on alternative, cleaner energy sources and an economy in which recycling plays an ever greater role. That requires collaboration. That’s the essence of the Sustainable Energy and Environment theme. An enormous challenge that will prepare us and the region for a sustainable economy with professionals equipped for the future.
SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE TOGETHER
People with less education or income live shorter and feel less healthy. The Fair Health theme aims to change that. How? By devoting attention to these differences in education and research. We connect all the available knowledge at HAN and engage partners from the professional field. Together we can make a difference.
